We’ve all been there when it comes to change… it makes us seek control and balance what ever the situation may be. Trying to put everything right, and make everyone happy seems almost impossible to do, but entertaining to watch.
From the poster alone, I want to go see this! “Finding your boyfriend a new girlfriend isn’t always the best goodbye present”… Hell, I could never do that, which shows Ellen (who is leaving the country by the way, didn’t you know?) is the sweetest, and probably most controlling character this side of the country… Makes for a good story it seems.
Ellen is young, ambitious and ready to fly the coop; she has her eyes set on travelling. When packing up and putting things in order, her boyfriend Hamish jokingly suggests she sorts him out too by finding him a new girlfriend. Ellen sees this as a great idea, after all, it’ll make the break-up not so tough. She focuses on this and makes it her main priority, but once things seem to be falling into place, she doesn’t know if that’s the way she wanted them to fall in her heart.
Directed by Wellington Filmmaker Michelle Savill, Ellen is Leaving is a finalist for the “New Zealand’s Best” short film programme at the 2012 New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF), only one of six chosen… Wow!
