Review: Sally Hansen ‘Gem Crush’ Nail Colour

✯✯✯✯✯ 5/5

I was really impressed with this range of nail colour. I’m already a very big fan of any sparkly polishes, but had only tried OPI ones before now. At $12.99RRP for Gem Crush, you can’t go wrong with a bit of sparkle.

What I loved about it:

The colours. Both the red (Cha-Ching!) and blue (Bling-tastic) colours had bits of silver glitter in it, with the red and blue as the base, making the shimmer more bold and bright; it gave the colours dimension. All the other colour choices have different glitter compliments, to achieve this also.

The brush. A stroke of genius. The brush for one is flat, making it simple to wipe off excess colour (and reduce the risk of any drops on your carpet). The brush however was still thick enough that you didn’t need to ‘reload’ more polish for each nail. I also liked it that the brush was curved at the end, rather than straight, making it super easy to get to the cuticle line, and not onto your skin.

The last. I’m used to glitter nail colours chipping profusely within the second day, but Gem Crush held up. Yes, I did get the odd chip here and there, but nothing major, and it happened day three. It still looks like I just painted them, very clean. WOW!

The clean up. Truth be told, you do have to scrub a bit longer to get any glitter polishes off, but I did find this easier than usual. I only needed to use one dab of acetone remover per nail, and found that the scrub didn’t hurt my nails. In the past, I have had to scrub off Glitter OPI’s to the point my nails hurt to the touch one day later.

 My tips:

Make sure you use a base and topcoat. The base coat helps to protect your nail, and gives the glitter something to stick to, and the topcoat locks it in, and gives it that extra glaze of shine. Sally Hansen can cater for these also, with strengthening and high-shine products.

Judge how many coats you may need. With blue Bling-tastic I put three coats on, but with the red Cha-Ching, I only needed two. These polishes are nice and thick, so you could even get away with one coat, if you put a colour underneath. You have the choice to play around with these colours.

Head to Sally Hansen, to check out more of the magic.

I will be reviewing the Sally Hansen ‘Rock of Ages’ limited edition Salon Effects next week, so look out for it.
