You can get chalkboard paint so easily these days. I have found 1 litre of black chalkboard paint for $35NZD (Mitre10, Bunnings etc.). Whether you own your home or are just renting, there are some great ideas out there.
Here’s some ideas I have found:

Glasses:
An easy way to know what glass is yours during a party. To achieve this, use a high quality brush, tape around to get a clean line, and paint away.
Kitchen Cabinets:
Apart from it looking fabulously rustic, it’s handy to write down your shopping list, recipes, menus, or even draw what is in each cabinet (a great idea if you have guests staying over).
Canisters:
If you can’t get chalking in your kitchen, paint your tins and canisters to create a low budget pop, and help keep organised. To achieve this, follow the same steps for painting glasses.
Frames:
A great idea if you are flatting, or not wanting to commit to a chalked wall. Use it in the hallway to welcome guests, or even hang it above your bed with your favourite quote on love. You can easily make this. Find an old frame and take out the glass. Paint the backing to the frame and slip it in, you’re done. So easy!

A friend of mine recently painted her fridge. It took 3 coats to achieve this, with sanding down as much as possible before starting. If you’re going to do this, make sure you don’t paint the seals, as you’re gonna have trouble getting the fridge open, and you also don’t want any paint getting into your food.
