I am inspired by pastel hair. It is fun but not too full on. So I decided to try it out! I never thought I would have green hair in my life, but I’m really loving this minty colour. You need your hair to be light blonde. I just had my regrowth done, so waited a few days before I put the green in.
What you’ll need:
- Green hair dye (I used Crazy Colour ‘Emerald Green’ as it lasts 3-10 washes only. Yay!)
- Conditioner (not an anti-dandruff one though)
- Shampoo
- A mixing brush
- Bowl
- Comb
Instructions:
Step 1. Wash yo’ hair. You only need to use shampoo at this point to wash it. Get out and towel dry your hair.
Step 2. In a bowl, pour in as much dye and conditioner you like. Remember, the more conditioner you put in, the more pastel it should be. I used about 3 parts dye, to 1 1/2 parts conditioner. Mix together. Tip: Do a tester on a part of your hair before you start to make sure that’s the colour you want.
Step 3. Mix into hair. I used my mixing brush for the roots and around the front of my face, my hands for mixing in the rest, and a comb to make sure it is evenly distributed. But do whatever suits you best, just get it in there.
Step 4. Leave for 15-30 minutes. I kept mine on for 20 mins as I didn’t want it going too bright (since I used more dye than conditioner).
Step 5. Wash out, no need to condition again. Dry it, and rock it.

As you can see, it goes many different colours in the light; sometimes green, sometimes blue, it still looks blonde sometimes. There’s also a bit on the side that is more bright than the rest; that’s where my tester strip was, so it was dyed over twice.

How would this work on dark hair without bleach?
Hey,
You’ll need to wet your hair first and ensure it is damp enough for the colour pigment to pick up on it. Just have a play around!
[...] tried it first with pastel mint, then to a light pinky colour, and am now sitting at a pinky purple [...]
Hey Christine! Where do you get hte crazy colour dye from?
Hey Ash,
I haven’t found it stocked in NZ yet, so I get mine from Trademe and ebay. I like it cause they have heaps more colours, and it stays in for only a few weeks (great if you stuff it up/don’t like it/want to try the next colour). You could always buy a bright colour for conditioner (1 part dye, 2-3 parts conditioner) x
