I have a very talented friend, Doron who made this headboard. This is one of his first solo DIY’s since moving to Christchurch and away from all his friends (tear!), so he needed photos as evidence to show that he did it himself (Lucky for me, I can use these photos for the blog).
The inspiration came from this:

What you will need:
- 2 old doors (or one if you’re doing a headboard for a single bed)
- Electric Sander
- Sanding sheets
- Protective gear (gloves, glasses, face mask)
- Chain (optional)
- Nails (optional)
- paint/varnish (optional)

You preferably want an old door that is already painted, or paint away with your own colour and leave a couple of days to dry.
The great thing about this is there isn’t a rule book; to make things look rustic they need to just be random. For this reason, sand as long as you would like to, take the handles off if you fancy, and use the optional pieces of chain, nails, and varnish to distress the wood and add texture. Do what you like to make this piece unique. It’s up to you whether you want to attach this to the bed, or just have it leaning up against the wall and add to the rustic feel.
Here is the finished product:

For all those keen on doing this, It is a weekend project. SO PLAN AHEAD, This will take a full day and a half.
As a alternative you can use pallets too, That was the second option if i didnt find cheap doors.
GOOD LUCK!
